Joseph J. Parelman, M.D.

Dr. Parelman received his medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine. He completed his internship in internal medicine at St. John's Mercy Hospital in St. Louis and his residency training in Ophthalmology at the Washington University Medical Center in St. Louis. His fellowship at the Louisiana State University Eye Center concentrated on corneal transplantation, diseases of the outer eye and refractive surgery. He participated in some of the early research and development of the laser now used for LASIK.

Prior to returning to Kansas City to join with his father, Dr. Allen Parelman, Dr. Parelman was the director of Residency Training for the Department of Ophthalmology at the Washington University School of Medicine. He maintains his interest in medical education as a member of the volunteer teaching faculty of the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Kansas Medical School.

Dr. Parelman and his wife Staci are the proud parents of three active children and he makes time to pursue his interests in woodworking, skiing, and biking.

Steven R. Unterman, M.D.

Dr. Unterman received his medical degree from the University of Oklahoma. He completed his residency and advanced eye surgery training at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City. During his fellowship at the Louisiana State University Eye Center he specialized in diseases and surgery of the cornea, as well as refractive surgery.

Prior to joining the staff at the Mid-America Eye Center, Dr. Unterman was a full time Assistant Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Kansas Medical School. He was also the Medical Director of the Kansas Eye Bank and the Cornea Service. Dr. Unterman maintains his affiliation with the KU Medical Center as an Assistant Clinical Professor and is also a consultant at the Kansas City Veterans Administration Center.

Dr. Unterman and his wife Ellen are the proud parents of two daughters. His hobbies include sports car restoration.

Annette S. (Buscher) Manion, O.D.

Dr. Manion received her doctor of optometry degree from Indiana University School of Optometry at Bloomington, Indiana in 1995. She completed her rotations in Louisville, Kentucky at the John Kenyon Eye Institute and Doctors Eyecare in New Albany, Indiana. She specializes in primary eye care, contactlenses, and children.

Prior to joining Mid-America Eye Center, Dr. Manion was a full-time staff optometrist with Kaiser Permanente. She keeps abreast of the changing education and as an active member of the local Greater Kansas City Chapter of the American Optometric Association.

Dr. Manion was recently married to Jeff, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service. They share many interests and hobbies including bike riding. One of Dr. Manion's favorite activities is scrap booking.
